I've come to the conclusion that if I watch the first few minutes of Oprah, I can catch one good awkward/uncomfortable/no-she-didn't moment. Yesterday, it was Barbara Walters. Barbara waltzes elegantly across the stage, Oprah meets her in the middle, and the two do the strangest dance that if words were added, it would have sounded like this:
Oprah: "Don't kiss me, I'm going to kiss you."
Babs: "Not with that hideous lipstick, you're not."
Oprah: "Oh yeah? Well, I'm not going near that drool on your lip, anyway."
Babs: "Perhaps we should hug instead."
Oprah: "Deal."
Don't celebrities have people who train them how to manage this sort of thing? Isn't there a code of conduct for Hollywood greetings? I thought the air kiss was the standard. What has become of the air kiss???
